Beyond Migration: CDP's Journey from Camunda 7 to Camunda 8 and Legacy Mainframe Modernization Massimo Colosimo, Head of Loan Systems Mgmt, Cassa Depositi e Prestiti
At Cassa Depositi e Prestiti, loan origination processes are central to how we support public entities and enable investment initiatives across Italy. For years, these processes have relied on a combination of Camunda 7 and legacy workflow platforms. As part of our modernization strategy, we are now launching a structured three-year transformation program to progressively migrate our process landscape from Camunda 7 to Camunda 8.
Rather than approaching migration as a pure technology upgrade, we see it as an opportunity to rethink how business processes are designed, maintained, and evolved. To support this journey, we are evaluating the AI capabilities and productivity tools available within the Camunda ecosystem to accelerate process discovery, analysis, documentation, and implementation.
At the same time, CDP is starting a broader legacy modernization initiative focused on selected mainframe-based applications. During this phase, we are exploring how capabilities such as Process OS and AI-assisted process intelligence can leverage existing documentation, application knowledge, and functional artifacts to generate process models and workflow stubs that are easier to integrate into a modern orchestration platform.
In this session, we will share our modernization roadmap, the rationale behind our migration strategy, and how we are approaching the combined challenges of process orchestration, legacy transformation, and AI-enabled productivity within a highly regulated public-sector environment.
