Welcome to BPMN in Action, the ultimate educational video series for BPMN tutorials.
This project aims to show why Business Process Model and Notation is the global standard for business process modeling and how it works in different industries. We also review best practices, situation patterns, tips and tricks, and more.
By learning BPMN, you gain a better understanding of your organization's processes and optimize them for maximum efficiency. Take your organization's processes to the next level with BPMN in Action!
History of BPMN
In this first installment of our BPMN in Action video series, we highlight why Business Process Model and Notation is the global standard for process modeling. Dive into the history of BPMN from how it started, how it has evolved, and how it has become today’s standard.
Part 1: Modeling Patterns
In the first video of two, we discuss BPMN patterns. Niall demonstrates how to model a path to escalate process steps when necessary using Camunda Desktop Modeler with the Token Simulator plugin. Along the way, he will share best practices for process modeling, including factors to keep in mind for better KPI monitoring.
Part 2: Modeling Patterns
In the second part of our Modeling Patterns sequence, Senior Developer Advocate Niall Deehan will discuss three common patterns: Dealing with Fatal Problems, Reusable Subprocesses, and Second Set of Eyes.
BPMN for the Healthcare Industry
In this tutorial video, Nele Uhlemann will show the potential for process automation within healthcare and share her insights on how systems can support human workflows. Nele will review different process model scopes and explain the relationship between technical processes and human workflow orchestration using a collaboration diagram built by modeling operational processes.
BPMN for the Insurance Industry
In this video, Nele Uhlemann explains how BPMN can be applied in the insurance industry using the process of “submitting an insurance claim.” She will show how Decision Model and Notation (DMN) can help model complex business decisions and how to combine BPMN and DMN. As she builds the process from scratch, Nele will show how you can model complex business decisions in DMN and how to export the BPMN diagram to a Decision Requirement Diagram (DRD) diagram.
Part 1: Best Practices for Modeling
In this video, you will learn foundational modeling rules and best practices for building, organizing, and labeling your BPMN diagrams for readability and easy execution. Nele Uhlemann introduces each rule by showing the opposite (also known as Anti-Pattern) before transforming the process model using best practices and providing context behind each recommendation.
Part 2: Best Practices for Modeling
In part 2 of Best Practices for Process Modeling, Nele Uhlemann discusses the different scopes that exist for BPMN diagrams, questions to consider when determining which scope will best fit the needs of your organization, and important scoping rules to keep in mind. The different scopes you will learn more about include Internal vs. External Parties, Strategic vs. Operational Scopes, and Technical vs. Human Workflow.
Part 3: Best Practices for Modeling
In this final installment of Best Practices for Process Modeling, we will explore why organizations should implement best practices for building BPMN diagrams, the available possibilities, and key factors to consider.
